C-19 Secure Holidays at Harford Bridge ParkPublished Wednesday 20th of May 2020
A week on from publication of the National Recovery Plan on 13 May we have stepped-up preparations at Harford Bridge to re-open our park and operate according to national guidelines for being COVID-19 Secure when published.
There is, it seems, little likelihood that we can welcome guests of any kind until ‘Test, Track and Trace’ is in place and our hope is that holidays in self-catering accommodation may be permitted sometime in June in Step 2 if the plan goes well enough. We also know that on 14 May Government officials pledged to “give careful thought' to outdoor holidays in caravans and camping”.
However, as our Prime Minister stated in his introduction to the Recovery Plan – “Hope is not a plan” - so we are planning for the worse case - which for us is opening in Step 3 (July 2020) and hoping for the best case (June 2020)!
As there are two possibilities, we have decided to offer bookings from Friday 5th June 2020 under a ‘COVID-19 Secure Pledge’ and we will take deposits under this pledge (which is really a guarantee) from 21 May 2020.
Our Pledge means that in the event of any of the following:
- You consider it unsafe to come on holiday due to the continuing threat of Coronavirus,
- You are unable to travel due to sickness and/or isolation due to Coronavirus,
- There being UK Government restrictions on travel due to the Coronavirus outbreak,
- Harford Bridge Park is closed due to the Coronavirus outbreak.
Our pledge to you is that between 28 days and 3 days prior to arrival, you can cancel your stay or postpone it at no charge. Alternatively, you can:
- Transfer your holiday to new dates in 2020 or 2021,
- Ask us to apply the booking payment against a future holiday,
- Or you can cancel your booking and receive a full refund within 14 days.
If you feel comfortable booking a holiday any date from 5 June 2020 or after, even though there is possibility of a second wave of infection and because of this (or other reasons) we may not be permitted to honour your booking; or you change your mind we promise to deal with changes, cancellation or postponement under the stated terms of our ‘C-19 Secure Pledge’ (above).
Meanwhile, we will continue to work to get Harford Bridge Park ready to operate under the new norms. This will likely mean that guests can play tennis and exercise dogs in our separate meadow, but our children’s play area will not be open until it is safe to do so. There will be social distancing requirements and the need to wash or sanitise hands often and our shop and guest reception facilities will be split to reduce the risk of virus transmission. Other safeguards may be necessary to keep guests and our team safe.
If you have a caravan or motorhome with WC & shower facilities on board it may be possible to holiday at Harford from 5 June (or it may not). The shared facilities in our toilet block may not be available until July we think, and access under COVID-19 Secure guidelines, if permitted and possible, will be controlled.
To be ready and enable our guests to plan what to do during their stay we are putting information on our Mobile App - which is free to download for iPhone and Android. We are prioritising information about things to do and places to go in West Devon, The Tamar Valley and Dartmoor that are likely to be low risk from coronavirus and permitted under the Recovery Plan. We know that Tavistock is getting ready to re-open in Step 2.
We truly believe that holiday and touring parks are ‘fresh air hotels’ and that our guests can enjoy outdoor holidays in self-contained, self-catering accommodation with full bathroom and kitchen facilities in holiday caravans, and Studio Lodges, and our Shepherd’s Hut as we have reserved facilities for that as well. If you have a touring caravan or motorhome you might think it is time to book a getaway on a provisional basis.
We are very much looking forward to welcoming guests to Harford Bridge Park and will be ready to welcome all who book to stay with us and hope the National Recovery Plan achieves its purpose. If we all play our part to be COVID-19 Secure it very likely will.
Paul, Lydia, Nigel, and the Harford Team
