Your gateway to the Dartmoor National Park
You’ll find Harford Bridge Park on the edge of the Dartmoor National Park, just 2.5 miles from the thriving market town of Tavistock.
An ancient stannary town and home of the Devon cream tea, Tavistock is the only town in Devon to hold world heritage status. Tavistock has a wide range of beautiful and local independent shops, an award-winning farmers market and a unique indoor Pannier Market. It’s a refreshing change from the typical high street, although you’ll also find the standard supermarket chains for stocking up on staples.
As well as the shopping, Tavistock offers plenty of entertainment. There’s an indoor swimming pool, cinema, museum and guided walks around the town. When it comes to eating out, you’re spoilt for choice. Whether you fancy gourmet food, pub grub, fine dining, international takeaway, cream tea or a traditional pasty, it’s all available in the town.
Harford Bridge Park is on the edge of West Dartmoor, an ancient landscape of stunning views, wide-open spaces and rugged moorland. Here physical activities abound – horse riding, cold water swimming, kayaking, tor climbing, off-road cycling, letterboxing and hill walking are all available to you just a short distance from the park.
The West Devon section of Cycle Route 27 passes adjacent to Harford Bridge, and you’ll also find easy access to several local walks.
For a less energetic day out, nearby local visitor attractions include Buckfast Abbey, the Tavistock Heritage & Mining World Heritage Site and Lydford Gorge.
Britain’s Ocean City, Plymouth, a lively waterfront city packed full of attractions, is just 15 miles south of Harford Bridge. And Exeter, one of England’s most vibrant, attractive and historically interesting cities, is 37 miles east. So, if you’d like to soak up some city culture while staying with us, you’ve got two options within easy reach.
The surf beaches to the north and calmer pleasure beaches to the south are all within an hour’s drive away, making beach days possible too. However, we don’t know why you’d want to leave the beauty of the Dartmoor National Park!
